CA Productions to Film Cantonese Adaptation of 'Stolen Bicycle' After Winning Taiwan Film Festival in Australia's 2024 IP Competition

The CA Productions team is thrilled to announce that it has officially entered the pre-production phase of its Cantonese adaptation of the acclaimed Taiwanese novel, "Stolen Bicycle" by Wu Ming-Yi. The film is being developed in partnership with the Taiwan Film Festival in Australia after Joseph McKenna and Freya Xu's pitch won the TWFF's inaugural Pitching Competition.

As part of the Pitching Competition's rules, CA Productions will receive a $5,000 grant to bring to life a piece of Taiwanese literature. This grant will be split across the three phases of production and across the lifespan of the project. Principal photography is anticipated to begin in mid-2025 with an aim to premier the film at the TWFF's Sydney showing at the Sydney Operate House in September 2025. The project is being led by by co-directors and writers Joseph McKenna and Freya Xu. Producers Thomas McKenna and Sebastian Tomlinson, alongside cinematographer Tomiya Hills will be joining the production of the film. The film will be shot on location in Hong Kong and will remain true to the main themes of the novel.
